Big Sculpture Of Saint Anne - 19th Century
A religious statue in solid wood depicting Saint Anne, from the Neo-Gothic period of the 19th century. The drapery and face are worked with restraint. The sculpture is carved from a single block, solid and heavy, with an antique patina and cracks resulting from the natural aging of the wood. The book bears the Latin inscription "Ecce virgo concipiet et pariet filium," meaning: "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son."
