Oil on copper after Joseph Albrier (1791-1863) depicting the Marquise de Montesson (1738-1806) in its magnificent original gilt and carved wooden frame decorated with scrolls and concretions. The reverse bears the inscription "Marquise de Montesson". Charlotte-Jeanne Béraud de La Haye de Riou, Marquise de Montesson (Paris, October 4, 1738 – Paris, February 5, 1806) was a French writer. A French aristocrat known for her sharp wit and love of the arts, she became one of the most influential social figures of the 18th century. She was also the mistress, and later the secret wife, of Louis-Philippe, Duke of Orléans. Formerly sold at Osenat Fontainebleau. Dimensions with frame: Height 47 cm, Width 32.5 cm
