A Napoleon III period lady's commode with a concealed dressing table, richly decorated with floral marquetry on the top and front. Each of the three drawers features finely executed scrollwork and bouquets, illustrating the meticulous and harmonious craftsmanship typical of French cabinetmaking of the period. The top, adorned with a large marquetry cartouche and framed by a bronze (or brass) panel with a molded edge, opens to reveal a vanity area. The turned legs, connected by a shaped and undulating stretcher, lend stability and elegance to the whole.
