"Venus De Milo – Large Study Model In Carrara Marble, Italy, Late 19th – Early 20th Century"
Venus de Milo – Large study model in Carrara marble, Italy, late 19th – early 20th century. Dimensions: 94 cm – Weight approx. 80 kg. Price: €6,200. Superb academic study model in Carrara statuary marble, after the famous Aphrodite de Milos (Venus de Milo) housed in the Louvre. A workshop piece, intended for teaching and the reproduction of antique sculptures within Italian academies. This model is distinguished by several rare features: Solid marble; Deliberately unpolished surface, typical of study models; Undecorated, rough-hewn base, revealing the rough-hewing process and gradine. Visible traces of pointing (traditional method of establishing proportions before final sculpting). An old cartouche in reserve bears the inscription “VENUS DE MILO,” typical of school marbles. Remarkable fidelity of features, drapery, and proportions. These characteristics attest to an academic production, probably from an Italian workshop (Florence or Carrara) specializing in pedagogical copies made from antique models in the Louvre. Condition: good overall condition; slight wear consistent with age, natural micro-inclusions in the marble; a small chip on the tip of the nose, which should be noted but does not affect the aesthetics or value of the work. Authenticity guaranteed. Specialized transport available (France/Europe). Secure payment – Information upon request.
