"Bordeaux Tomb Chest Of Drawers In Carved Walnut – Louis XV Period, 18th Century"
Elegant Bordeaux tomb chest of drawers in solid walnut, opening with four drawers in three rows: two drawers at the top, then two large drawers at the bottom. Work from the Southwest of France, Bordeaux region, circa 1750–1760. The front has a crossbow curve and an “S” shape on the sides, typical of 18th-century Bordeaux furniture. The rounded uprights and volute feet end elegantly in scrolls. The lower crosspiece, finely fretted and carved with a small stylized dog or wolf, adds a naive and picturesque touch, emblematic of the provincial productions of the Southwest. The solid walnut top, with a bec-de-corbin, was previously remade, in harmonious respect of the original style. The handles and keyholes are in chased gilt bronze, from the period or close to it. Assembly of drawers with old dovetails, original bottoms and sides. Very beautiful warm and authentic patina, some restorations and wear of time which contribute to its original charm. Origin: Bordeaux, South-West of France Period: Louis XV – 18th century (circa 1750–1760) Dimensions: L 133 × D 66 × H 92 cm
