"Sculpture Of Saint Anne And The Virgin Mary, Late 16th Century "
A polychrome walnut wood sculpture depicting Saint Anne and the Virgin Mary teaching her to read. The book rests on a fluted column. Saint Anne's veil is short, and the Virgin is crowned. There are graceful, undulating folds on the sides of her robes, and her shoes are pointed. The base is beveled, and the rounded faces suggest folk art. The polychromy is partly a later addition. France, Brittany/Normandy, late 16th century.
