Themed plate: The School.

Tin-glazed earthenware with white slip.
Decorated with figures in cobalt blue depicting a scene of schoolchildren and two teachers.
One of the pupils is about to undergo corporal punishment by whipping.

Circular inscription around the rim of the plate:
"Brother René of the lower class, 1760 - this pupil who fears the whip and the torch represents here the common proverb: 'It's like a Melun eel that cries out before it's skinned.'"

Two chips around the rim.
