This model is known as a "waterleaf capital" because of its decoration evoking the leaves of wild rushes found in wetlands. It has been present in Lombardy since the 11th century. The yellowish stone used is Angera stone, quarried in the town of the same name on the shores of Lake Maggiore, and highly prized in the Middle Ages for the manufacture of capitals and decorative elements.
The capital is well preserved and shows traces of former polychromy on one face.
It rests on an iron base, available upon request.
