Object description :

"Antique Indian Palace Gate In Carved Wood - Architecture, 20th Century Craftsmanship"

Monumental carved wooden door with its complete frame, in traditional Indian workmanship.
Handcrafted work from the 20th century (probably around 1930–1960).
Probably Himalayan cedar.
Honey-toned colour with a beautiful patina.

The ensemble consists of:

• A wide carved frame forming a true architectural surround.
• Two panelled leaves, reinforced with wrought-iron fittings on the inside.

The frame is entirely decorated with finely carved vegetal and geometric motifs: scrolling leaves, stylised flowers, chevron friezes and small squares repeated over the full height. The side uprights have a crenellated profile on the front, which gives a lot of depth to the whole and recalls traditional North Indian architectural door surrounds.

The door leaves, more restrained, reveal the grain and knots of the wood, as well as visible tool marks. The panels are edged with carved mouldings, punctuated with small star-shaped metal fittings.

Overall condition:
Structurally sound and stable.
Beautiful, even patina from use.
Traces of old losses or localized restorations to some mouldings and carvings.
Sound overall and ready to be installed. Easy to adjust.

Ideal for architecture, as a passage or partition door, bathroom door, or as a decorative wall panel to add depth to a room.
