"Trio Of Wooden Franciscans"
Three single-carved wooden statues, forming a completely fortuitous trio, likely assembled just for the photo, come from the Thuringia region, where they were crafted by a skilled sculptor in the 1950s. Based on their attributes, one might assume they represent Saint Francis of Assisi, given his stigmata and the cord of his habit, but the memento mori at his feet requires further investigation. Perhaps they also represent Saint Anthony, who was also a Franciscan… The last figure is cutting bread… but is also a monk. These figures measure between 25 and 27 cm in height and form a magnificent ensemble.
