* Signed Bruchon( Émile Bruchon (1806-1895) *
Total height: 52.5 cm / Sculpture with base: 34 cm / Sculpture alone: 29 cm
It adopts the lines and forms of a young woman dressed in a draped garment with flowing folds and hair in the typical style of this beautiful Art Nouveau period.
With one raised hand she lifts her hair and with the other she holds a lamp; the gree33,5 cmn glass reservoir with a satiny texture is decorated with three young women's faces, flowers alternating with floral garlands and fluttering butterflies. This high-quality decoration is painted with a thick layer of milky white enamel (the attached zoomed photo does not do justice to the beauty of the work, especially as there are streaks of rust-colored dirt which have now been cleaned).
The sculpture itself is made of spelter, yet it displays a superb patina; Certainly, as was the custom, it is made of copper-plated spelter, patinated like bronze.
The circular base is made of wood painted to resemble cherry marble (note that there are chips in the decorative paint at the base, covering approximately two-thirds of its circumference, but these are very discreet and do not detract from the lamp's appearance). The signature of the sculptor Bruchon is engraved at the base of the sculpture. This lamp is ready to use. We have tested it and it works perfectly with new odorless paraffin-based lamp oil.
The foot of the sculpture bears the signature of the sculptor Bruchon.
