Object description :

"Announcing Angel Announcing Angel From The Florentine School Of San Marco (1520-30)"
An exceptional oil painting on poplar panel of remarkable pictorial quality, so much so that it can be attributed to the close entourage of Fra Bartolomeo della Porta, who led the Florentine School of the Convent of San Marco, a thriving artistic workshop of Dominican conventuals. It is highly likely that this panel was used in a more complex pictorial machine, and therefore placed above and opposite another panel depicting the Virgin Annunciate, given the particular vanishing point of the representation, in Sotto in sù. This model may have been executed around 1520 by Della Porta's most faithful assistants and heirs, namely Fra Paolino da Pistoia or Giovanni Antonio Sogliani, who were often authorized to use the master's preparatory drawings, and it is possible that this was also the case. The figure of the angel harks back to the aesthetic canons of Fra Bartolomeo, imbued with attention to detail and full of solemn devotion, the same ones passed down in the School of San Marco in the early 16th century. The chromatic palette also closely recalls the works of Fra Paolino. Upon request, we can obtain an expert estimate for the panel from an expert in Florentine Renaissance painting.
The panel is in perfect condition and shows only brief, significant repainting under UV light. The extremely fine grain of this panel makes it a unique and highly prized object.
The panel alone measures 36cm x 48cm. The frame is in 20th-century Renaissance style, 8cm in section.

We include a certificate of authenticity with the sale.
