"Small Parisian Commode, 18th Century, Stamped Girardau"
Small 18th-century Parisian commode in the Regency style, stamped Girardau and bearing the Parisian guild mark. The piece is made of walnut (top and drawers), beech, and oak. The original top has a corbelled edge and is stamped on the back. It has original straight legs. Older restorations include drawer corners, drawer edges, one front rail, and one corner of the top. The lock escutcheons and handles are antique bronze. The piece has been treated, cleaned, and patinated in our workshop. Jean Girardau - cabinetmaker. Received his master's certificate on November 19, 1738. He worked on Rue Saint-Nicolas, then on Rue de Charenton, at least until 1771. He produced ordinary furniture, primarily in the Transition and Louis XV styles, very classical, in walnut or violet wood, particularly wardrobes and commodes.
