"Antoine-louis Barye (1795–1875) - Bronze Animal Sculpture: Greyhound "
Antoine-Louis Barye (1795–1875) - Bronze Animal Sculpture of a Greyhound. Bronze sculpture with a green patina depicting a greyhound. Signed on the base. Please note some wear to the patina. Antoine-Louis Barye is considered the undisputed master of animal sculpture in the 19th century. The son of a goldsmith from Lyon who settled in Paris, he was introduced to metalwork at a very young age. He quickly found his niche sculpting animals in intense poses, often in action: lions, tigers, deer, snakes, horses... His style, both romantic and naturalistic, is distinguished by a keen sense of anatomy and a powerful dramatic quality. On display at the Galerie Courcelles Antiquités, 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
