He is associated with the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist schools. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was a pupil of Léon Cogniet and Alexandre Cabanel, two renowned academic painters. This gave him a classical grounding before he adopted a freer, nature-oriented style. Gagliardini began with history paintings and genre scenes before devoting himself mainly to landscapes. He painted scenes from the Barbizon region, the Alps, the South of France, and the Jura. Visible at the Galerie Courcelles Antiquités, at 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
