Late 17th Century. Portrait Of A Young Girl

Here is a ravishing young girl, her hair styled in the Fontanges fashion, adorned with natural flowers, wearing a dress trimmed with gold thread and decorated with sumptuous jewels. The attire is typical of the reign of Louis XIV. The painter follows the style of Pierre Gobert, famous for his small portraits of the aristocracy. The painting having been recovered damaged and with its original stretcher in very poor condition, it was decided to reline and replace it. It is now protected for many years to come. The gold leaf frame is later, dating from the late 18th century, but allows it to be discreetly showcased for the time being. Canvas dimensions: 45 cm x 36 cm
