"Miniature – Shepherd's Cup – Carved Wood – Folk Art – Massif Central – Auvergne"
Dating: Late 19th century. Origin: France – Massif Central, Auvergne. Small shepherd's cup, carved from wood, for personal use. This type of very small object often accompanied shepherds or peasants on their daily journeys, used for drinking a small glass of brandy or wine during rest stops. The body is richly decorated with a naive carved design representing a bart, a popular term for the symbolic bird in the pastoral art of the Massif Central, a figure associated with the soul, protection, and benevolent presence. The bird is depicted perched on a leafy branch, framed by serrated friezes running along the rim and base. The whole exudes a touching power through its intimate and symbolic nature: a pocket-sized, utilitarian object, but also one that carries an emotional and protective dimension. The wood has a beautiful honey patina, with traces of old use. The style is straightforward and spontaneous, typical of Auvergne folk art from the late 19th century, made on a potter's wheel and then finished with a knife. Condition: signs of wear, slight irregularities due to hand tools, good overall stability. Dimensions: Height 8 cm. Shipping: ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE VIA DHL EXPRESS ONLY.
