"Oil On Panel, Flanders, Tavern Scene, Matthieu Von Hellewout?"
Tavern scene: four figures are seated at a table. The central figure, seen from behind, raises his tall, narrow glass; he is seated on an overturned half-barrel. The figure facing the viewer is blowing his nose. To the left, the bearded tavern keeper holds a large bottle resting on the table. On the floor, a pitcher, probably made of pewter, gleams softly. Dark and indistinct background. Attributed by a label on the back to Matthieu von Hellewout, 1653-1739. Above the label, an old, illegible inscription. Giltwood frame. 19th century.
