Bentwood armchair, model 17, with a high oval caned medallion back. The armrests end in a scrolled volute, and the curved seat is caned. The caning is in good condition. This armchair bears the Thonet mark printed in ink on the inside of the frame (photo 3) as well as the original label (photo 4), affixed after 1842 when Michael Thonet (1796-1871) left for Vienna to create his second company, "Gebrüder Thonet" (Thonet Brothers), in homage to his five sons who were destined to inherit the business.
