Pascal Magis was born in 1955 in Aurillac, Cantal, and grew up in the Périgord Noir region, in the small village of Meyrals. This village has become a must-see for contemporary art enthusiasts, with several galleries located there, including Magis's studio, which is kept open by his niece. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts, he specialized in tapestry and became a tapestry weaver. From 1988 onwards, he devoted himself exclusively to painting, his preferred medium. Magis's work belongs to the "lyrical abstraction" movement. Working generally on large canvases, he applied sweeping movements, creating forms and marks, sometimes drips, in a highly controlled gestural style. His palette is vibrant, with bright colors alongside deep hues, and broken lines contrasting with immaculate whites. Generous and passionate, Pascal Magis, a prolific and internationally renowned artist, died prematurely at the end of 2011, leaving behind numerous major works in abstract art, far removed from the figurative styles of artists from the Périgord region. Presented in a black American-style case.
