A white onyx and mercury-gilt bronze clock, with beautiful original gilding and rich decoration. Signed in red "Raingo Frères Paris," the enamel dial is in perfect condition. The movement, with its Brocot escapement, has been serviced by a watchmaker and includes its original balance wheel, numbered 821 and stamped with a ship marked JLF (last photo). It is also numbered 821 on the back of the mainplate and on the edge of the front bezel. Everything is original and from the period. From 1860, the Raingo brothers created remarkable pieces for Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie, a collection that can be admired today at the Louvre. The Raingo firm exhibited at the Universal Exhibitions of 1862 in London, and in Paris in 1867 and 1878, winning a gold medal in 1889.
