"Crucifix, Louis XIV Period"
A superb antique crucifix depicting Christ in carved ivory, mounted on a gilt cross and presented on a crimson velvet background. The whole is framed in an elegant giltwood frame finely carved with acanthus and shell motifs, typical of the Louis XIV style and the early 18th century. The Christ figure, 17.5 cm high, is of particularly refined execution: the modeling of the body, the delicacy of the facial features, and the graceful movement recall the finest productions of French workshops, notably those of Dieppe, renowned for their mastery of ivory carving. The height of Christ (from head to toe) is 17.5 cm. 21cm (from hands to feet) Total dimensions: 57cm high Condition: good overall condition, small cracks in the gilt frame consistent with age.
