Cache-pot (rare) - Paris - Rue Thiroux - Manufactured By Guy And Housel - Late 18th Century
Artist: Guy - Housel - Paris
With a truncated cone shape and a flared neck, it has two ring handles. Its purpose is to conceal the plant pot (made of terracotta, glass, metal, etc.) by sliding it inside. In two-part models like this one, the interior includes a removable liner with a drainage hole. The base is not perforated: it remains watertight and protects the furniture. This cachepot is designed for a single plant. It emphasizes the elegance of the container while preserving the surface on which it rests. Hard-paste porcelain. White background decorated with a frieze of white cabochons on a gold ground beneath the neck, and a large geometric pattern of elongated pointed lozenges. The whole is enlivened by a naturalistic scattering of polychrome insects and butterflies (flies, ladybugs, butterflies, dragonflies, etc.). The same decoration is found on the foot. Gold trim on the edges.
