"Interesting Seascape With Figures And Galleons With Antique Frame, Late 17th Century."
An interesting and rare maritime painting depicting a bay with an inlet, a tower, and a fleet of galleons. It appears to have been painted to document the moment: the arrival of the fleet and the landing of sailors and officers. The presence of a figure on the left is ambiguous, appearing to be intent on whipping a man or woman, perhaps a slave or prisoner. Although the painting shows some anatomical flaws in the foreground figures, it must be said that the painter skillfully reproduced the boats and galleons, which are depicted in minute detail, with figures intent on maneuvers and nautical tasks.
The painting is presented on its first canvas and in excellent condition. Its fir wood frame is original and contemporary with the painting. It is likely a work from the Marche region.
