Born into a wealthy family, Raymond Thibésart was born in Bar-sur-Aube on May 2, 1874. Shortly after, his parents moved to Enghien, in the suburbs of Paris. It was there that the Thibésarts met a Venezuelan family who had just arrived in France, the Boggios. Highly gifted in drawing, Thibésart admired Emile Boggio, 17 years his senior, who gave him his first lessons when he was eleven. The master Emile Boggio, a highly talented Venezuelan Impressionist painter, became Raymond Thibésart's first teacher. From 1897 onward, as a member and later a gold medalist of the Société des Artistes Français, he exhibited regularly at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. Among his major exhibitions were: 1907, Galerie d'Art Contemporain, Paris; 1923, Galerie Knoedler, Paris; 1913–1927, Galerie Georges Petit, Paris; 1930, Galerie Ecalle, Paris; 1937–1941, Galerie Romanet, Paris and Algiers; and 1942–1965, Galerie des Champs-Élysées, Paris. Abroad, in Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Japan, and the USA, particularly for the past five years at the Wally Findlay Gallery in New York and Palm Beach. Six exhibitions took place at the Arte Moderno Gallery in Caracas between 1969 and 1981.
