Pewter pitcher with a shoulder, footed spout, quarter-round cup, and lid with a tasseled thumb rest.
Incompletely legible hallmark: crowned C /LANG(RES) /---/.
Height: 15.5 cm.
LANGRES (CHAMPAGNE), 18th century.

Rare in size and provenance, in good condition, although the base has been resealed and the lid's tab has been reinforced.
The date is illegible on this poorly struck hallmark. The only recorded dates to date are 1691, 1697, 1702, 1731, 1736, 1738, and 1756. As was the case for almost the entire territory of the kingdom, the royal edict of 1691 establishing this hallmarking was not respected. Langres is no exception.
