"Rare Louis XIV Walnut Hunting Buffet From Lyon On A Saint-julien Stone Plinth And Top 17"
I present here an exceptional piece of furniture in stained walnut with its Saint-Julien stone, dating from the 17th century and in pure Louis XIV style. This sumptuous and elegant "Hunting Buffet" is an aristocratic piece, featuring a thick stone of gray marbled limestone from the Saint-Julien quarry. The robust 5 cm thick top is molded with cyma recta to display the rich spoils of the hunt. Made of fine, dark walnut, glazed by time, this elegant and unusual piece opens with two doors secured by magnificent wrought-iron cremone bolts, veritable works of art. It rests on a wide, molded plinth base, and its sides are paneled with framed, cadris-lobed motifs. The double door is adorned with a central, intricately carved chapel. The four elongated hinges on each side allow access without a central rail, giving it both elegance and practicality. It is from Lyon and quite ornamental for a wall in the center of a room, such as a dining room. This piece of furniture comes from a château in the Cantal region and is being offered for sale for the first time directly from its origin, bypassing the auction house.
