Superb and rare Sèvres porcelain panther made by Paul Milet after a model by Georges Lavroff. Two-tone glaze, black and red. Height 12cm x Length 50cm. Paul Milet (1870-1950) was a 20th-century ceramist active in the Paris region. Born in Sèvres, he was the son of Félix Optat Milet. Although he received some basic training from his father, he perfected his skills in the laboratory of the Sèvres factory, then joined his father at his Sèvres workshop, which he succeeded a few years later. He collaborated with several artists at the Sèvres factory. He had a son, Henri, who would later take over the ceramics business. He exhibited in various institutions, notably at the 1900 Universal Exhibition at the Palais Galliera. Thanks to his training as a chemist, he carried out expert analyses for customs officials to control imports of Chinese porcelain. Paul Milet sold his works in their shop on Rue Royale, founded by his father and Clément Massier. His creations were also distributed at Galeries Lafayette and La Samaritaine. Due to the stylistic similarity of works produced by the Sèvres porcelain factory, he had to register his trademark "PM Sèvres." It is sometimes found with the initials reversed. Georges Lavroff, Russian sculptor, painter, draftsman, and decorator, was born in Siberia in 1895. He completed his first commissions in 1922 in Moscow. From 1927 to 1937, he was sent to France to further his artistic knowledge and promote Soviet art among his French communist comrades. This period was the most fruitful for his work. His Art Deco animal sculptures brought him renown in the West. His sculptures were mostly produced in bronze and ceramic for commissions from publishers, including Guillemard. Upon returning to Russia, he became a true official artist, working on monumental commissions and busts of important members of the Soviet regime. In 1982, an exhibition was dedicated to him in Moscow. He died in 1991. His works are increasingly sought after, and this panther is a key model for this artist. I note a very small, almost imperceptible chip on the right ear. Free shipping within the European Union. €250 for international shipping.
