"Scepter, Yombe People, Drc"
Ceremonial scepter consisting of a cylindrical handle extending in a twisted fashion. It is surmounted by a seated maternity figure. The woman is upright and proud, adorned with jewelry on her arms and forearms. She wears a queen's headdress. Her child rests on her lap, which she delicately holds in her hands. She represents a queen mother, founder of the clan, and carries the future lineage on her lap. This is a tribute to the ancestors through ancestor worship. She is believed to bring protection and abundance to the clan.
