This altarpiece triptych depicting the Virgin and Child with angels was created and framed in Florence in the second half of the 19th century by an Italian follower of the renowned early Renaissance painter Fra Angelico (1395-1455).
Born in Florence, Fra Angelico entered the San Domenico monastery in Fiesole between 1420 and 1422. He produced altarpieces and manuscripts. The Linaiuoli Altarpiece, a triptych set in a marble reliquary, was one of his early masterpieces. He later painted celebrated frescoes in the San Marco monastery in Florence and in a chapel in the Vatican. He died in 1455.
