Royal Almanac 1816 Bookplate
A fine copy of this important almanac, the first of the Restoration period, published in 1816. Bound in a beautiful contemporary full marbled calf binding, smooth spine decorated with a label and scalloped edges, and a fleur-de-lis repeated in gold. Provenance: the library of Count Elie de Palys (1817-1908, grandson of the Chevalier de Palys), with a handwritten inscription on the flyleaf "Bib. du Ch. de Clays" with Palys's signature, "given by...? 1878." Opposite is the bookplate of the library of the Château de Clays-Palys (Brittany, Ille-et-Vilaine). This important "directory" presents, in the official order of precedence, the list of members of the French royal family, as well as the French army and administrative corps (police, diplomats, bankers, etc.) with the names of all those in office.
