Calliope, like her eight sisters, the Muses, is one of the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne.
She is often portrayed as a majestic young woman, her brow encircled by a golden crown, an emblem which, according to Hesiod, signifies her supremacy among the other Muses.
