Meissen porcelain figurine from the "Cries of Paris" series, depicting a lemon seller (Zitronenverkäufer). Created by Friedrich Elias Meyer in 1757. Marked with blue crossed swords and numbered 61163, 20th century, height: 13 cm. Listed in the Meissen Bergmann catalogue.
"History of the Cries of Paris."
The book describes street criers as a public service under royal authority. Men, women, and children walked the streets, calling out their wares or services to attract customers. Each trade had its own characteristic cry. Meissen drew inspiration from these trades and created a series of 34 figurines featuring these characters.
