Silk Painting, Empire Period
Silk painting with a central motif of two vestal virgins within a palmette setting. Two friezes of cherubs complete the design. The painting, of considerable size (74 cm high), is exquisitely delicate and executed in washes of white and gray on off-white silk. There is a small tear in the silk. The painting is in a mahogany frame, and the silk is protected by glass, hence the white reflections in the photos.
