"French School, Still Life With Lute And Damask Drapery, Oil On Panel, 19th Century"
A charming still life painted in oil on a wooden panel, depicting a lute and a sword arranged on a rich damask fabric and a lavishly carved wooden chair in the 17th-century style. A pair of spectacles, a musical score, and a flute complete this small painting of musical instruments. The beautiful brushwork is precise and expressive, convincingly rendering the richly woven drapery. There are some losses and damage, and most notably a crack in the upper part of the panel, which weakens it, as the photographs attest. Restoration with the addition of a reinforcement on the reverse side should be considered.
