Joseph Communal was born in 1876 in Le Châtelard-en-Bauges. He died in 1962 in Chambéry. A self-taught artist, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he received a third-class medal and a gold medal. He also exhibited at the Georges Petit Gallery in Paris. He became a member of the Société des Peintres de Montagne (Society of Mountain Painters) in 1913. Joseph Communal is featured in the book "Les Peintres de la Savoie" (The Painters of Savoy) by Anne Buttin and Sylvain Jacqueline, as well as in the "Bénézit" dictionary. The painting is enhanced by a magnificent carved wooden frame. Its dimensions with the frame are 57 cm x 65 cm.
