Signed and dedicated lower right: "Ulysse Butin / To my friend Mathey". Beautiful antique 19th-century frame. A very fine charcoal study of a fisherman's child, highly realistic yet charming, with a beautiful gaze. Ulysse Butin created a number of large and beautiful seascapes in Normandy, portraits of 19th-century seafaring people in the Dieppe and Honfleur region. A great naturalist painter whose works are held in numerous museums in France (Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Dieppe, Fécamp, Lille, etc.).
