This finely hand-knotted wool saddlebag, or khorjin, originates from the Shahsavan tribes of northwest Persia, dating to first half of the 20th century. The front panels feature striking geometric medallions within an intricate diamond lattice, rendered in rich shades of madder red, indigo, ivory, and sky blue. The reverse is woven in flatweave kilim technique with alternating horizontal bands of crimson and deep blue-green, typical of utilitarian tribal pieces. The tight symmetrical knotting and the balance of saturated natural dyes demonstrate mastery of both technical precision and chromatic harmony. Worn from travel and age, this textile retains a strong sense of authenticity and rhythm, embodying the nomadic aesthetic of function and artistry combined. Its compact size and vibrant geometry make it a compelling decorative and collectible example of antique tribal weaving.
