"Louis-charles Bombled "the Pursuit Of The Hunted Beast At The Edge Of The Woods""
Oil on canvas, "The Pursuit of the Hunt at the Edge of the Woods," signed lower right Ch. Bombled. French School. 55 x 46 cm. Louis-Charles Bombled (1862-1927) was the son of Karel Frederik Bombled (1822-1902), a Dutch painter celebrated in his time. Louis-Charles exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he received an honorable mention in 1885. He became popular through numerous illustrations. The Leicester Museum (United Kingdom) holds his painting "Cavalry Troop in the Northeast Wind" (source: Bénézit Dictionary of Painters and Sculptors). The honorable mention Bombled received does not reflect the excellence of his art, which he particularly perfected in his works, especially those depicting hunting. Our painting, which reflects the difficulty of crossing a stream that all riders dread, is it not rendered with mastery by the artist? Beautiful period frame in wood and gilt stucco (some minor restorations to the frame). Oil on canvas in good condition. 2800 euros
