Antique Burmese Repoussé Silver Tray Myanmar Elephants
A finely worked Burmese repoussé silver tray from the Mandalay region, dating to circa 1880–1920.
The tray is decorated with a richly detailed repoussé border featuring classic Burmese narrative scenes: an ox cart with driver, elephants with mahouts, a sailing boat, and rural figures set within scrolling foliage and stylised vegetation. These motifs are characteristic of the Mandalay School of silversmithing during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The central field is plain and lightly polished, providing a visual contrast to the ornate rim. The underside bears a high-purity silver mark reading “95% SILVER,” entirely typical of Burmese workshop practice of the period.
