Pair Of Late 18th-century Tripod Candlesticks With Sunflower Motifs In Marble And Gilt Bronze.
A rare pair of Carrara white marble tripod candlesticks forming amphorae from which emerge a bouquet of sunflowers in mercury-gilt bronze. The decoration and chasing cover all parts of the flowers. The amphora is encircled by a frieze of interlacing patterns flanked by three satyr heads to form a tripod whose hoof-shaped feet rest on a circular base with a beaded frieze. Height 27.5 cm. Period: late 18th century.
Condition report: fine quality of manufacture, chasing, and gilding. The original mercury gilding is in excellent condition with no wear. We have repaired small chips to the marble on one candlestick
