Dodane. Dod 601 Chronograph. Circa 1950, 18k Gold
Artist: Dodane
The Dodane manufacture, established in 1848, is a prestigious name in the history of Besançon watchmaking, having served France throughout the 20th century by supplying its Type 21 chronometers to the French Air Force. This privilege, a guarantee of exceptional quality, also contributed to its relative obscurity on the private market. Our DOD 601 chronometer was a prized creation for the city, but likely reserved for the military market. It is a rare but well-known and documented variation from the Dodane manufacture. It features an 18-karat gold case and a superb black dial. It has a telemeter crown and two pushers for the seconds hand. The horn-shaped lugs are typical of the 1950s. It has just been serviced by an excellent watchmaker in Fontainebleau and is guaranteed for one year by this workshop. New bracelet (fixed spring bars as always on older gold cases). Some minor scratches on the case back, otherwise very nice presentation.
