A putto playing the flute – a work in the antique style of the 19th century, by this sculptor trained by a student of Rodin. Bronze with a matte brown patina – a scratch on the back. Born in 1908 (Meiji 41) in the city of Hiraoka, Osaka Prefecture. Graduated from the ceramics department of the Osaka Technical School. Then, in Tokyo, he studied under Uichiro Ogura (a student of Rodin, who taught art in the French style). In 1928, he achieved his first success at the 9th Annual Imperial Exhibition. From 1935, he belonged to the Third Division association. This association sought to adapt art to the political situation (the invasion of China began in 1931), maintaining a critical and artistic perspective. In 1937, he was one of the artists involved in the Pan-Pacific Peace Exposition in Nagoya. (Exhibition against special operations in China) - From 1938 until 1978, he exhibited annually at the Nitten (Fine Arts Salon). During the war (1944), he participated in the "Art in Wartime" exhibition - Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Notable work: "Cenotaph of the Great Kanto Earthquake," a memorial statue for the souls of the children who perished in the 1923 earthquake.
