"Félix Parmentier - Yvonne And Her Dog"
Félix PARMENTIER Paris, 1821 – Paris, 1883 "Yvonne and Her Dog" Oil on canvas 46 x 38 cm (58 x 50 cm with frame) Signed lower left "F. Parmentier" Inscription on the back "Parmentier / Yvonne and Her Dog / Exhibition 1868" Beautiful Montparnasse frame Félix Parmentier was a painter of the French Realist school and a student of Léon Cogniet. This painting is undoubtedly a sketch for his Salon exhibition of 1868. It is worth noting that the title of the sketch, "Yvonne and Her Dog," was changed at the Salon to the more dignified title "Yvonne and Her Faithful Friend"! There is a lovely modeling and a powerful rendering of texture in this painting. Judging by the woman's headdress, the scene is likely set in Finistère. In 1868, he also exhibited another painting, "Leaving the Church (Finistère)".
