Superb and elegant marine painting, oil on canvas by Galien-Laloue. Eugène Gallien Laloue, known as Eugène Galien-Laloue, was a French painter and engraver born in Montmartre on December 11, 1854[1] and died in Chérence on April 18, 1941. One of his pseudonyms was Léon Dupuy. Known for his Parisian paintings, he also painted landscapes of Normandy, Seine-et-Marne, Marseille, Italy, and Venice. This artist's pictorial output, under his own name or a pseudonym, was prolific, and his commercial success attracted imitators whose pastiches are common on the art market. The quality of this painting, depicting a lively scene of port life, is exceptional. Ships are visible on the shore against an architectural backdrop, and the colors are vibrant and luminous. Signed "LD" on the sail of one of the boats. Original frame and wood and gilded stucco highlighting this painting.
