"Austrian Art Nouveau Terracotta "
Superb terracotta sculpture from the Art Nouveau period. Most likely from the late 19th or early 20th century, this sculpture in the Art Nouveau style (jugendstil in German) combines both a decorative function and sculptural artistic work. It is decorated with a putto (naked child) and a garland of flowers typical of Art Nouveau where nature is stylized in curved and ornamental forms. The main structure with openings evokes a tower or a stylized architectural element. On the base there is a hole probably giving space for a switch, this object could therefore have been a night light. The hole filled can also easily be used as a vase; very decorative object and in very good condition.
