17th Century Brass Plaque Depicting Nostradamus
A rare 17th-century brass plaque depicting Nostradamus, whose real name was Michel de Nostredame, born on December 14, 1503, in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and died on July 2, 1566, in Salon-de-Provence. A French apothecary and author who practiced astrology, he is best known for his work entitled "The Prophecies," in which some believe they find accurate predictions. According to several sources, he was also a physician. This rectangular plaque features a portrait of Nostradamus within a medallion on a guilloché background. The bearded old man is shown wearing a cloak and his characteristic headdress. A high-quality piece with fine chasing and hammering, it is in perfect condition.
