Ercuis Silversmith, Horizon Innovative Model, 1972, Echoing The Launch Of The Us Space Shuttle
Artist: Orfèvre Ercuis (modèle Design Créé Au Lancement De La Première Navette Du Programme Spatial Américain En 1970).
We are offering this beautiful Ercuis cutlery set, known as the ‘Horizon’ model, created in 1970 by the famous Maison Ercuis.
This model seems to have been created to ‘echo’ or salute the launch of the American space programme in 1970, the same year as this Ercuis cutlery set.
An old document from 1970, which I consulted about twenty years ago, presented this Horizon model on a page indicating that the design of this model was attributed to Georg Jensen. Unfortunately, I can no longer find this page announcing its launch; I misplaced it after moving house.
This is to say that the designer of this Horizon Ercuis model is believed to be Georg Jensen, but I no longer have proof of this and cannot say for certain.
The set consists of 65 pieces:
* 8 table forks
* 8 table spoons
* 8 table knives (1 knife handle has a dent at the end).
* 7 dessert forks (1 dessert fork is missing).
* 8 dessert spoons
* 8 fruit or cheese knives (one knife has a 2.5 cm longitudinal crack in the handle).
* 8 oyster or cake spoons
* 5 teaspoons (3 small spoons are missing).
* 1 pie server
* 1 salad server and/or sauce spoon (spoon and fork).
* 1 ladle
* 1 cheese knife
This cutlery set remains in good condition, with only two truly notable imperfections to report: one concerning the end of the handle of a large knife, which has been dented following a fall, and the other a lengthwise crack, also on a knife. Otherwise, please note the usual small scratches from normal use, nothing significant that cannot be removed by light polishing or, better still, by polishing in a steel ball tumbler (which allows repolishing without altering the silver layer at all).
If you have any questions, we are here to help.
