Attributed to the Neapolitan school, and more specifically to the hand of Gaspare Lopez (Naples, 1650; Florence, 1740), a major figure in 18th-century Neapolitan still life painting, in the lineage of Andrea Belvedere and the Florentine French painters, Bernardo de Dominicis emphasizes the decisive influence of Jean-Baptiste Dubuisson on his career. Dubuisson, a skilled disseminator in Naples of Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer's courtly style, encouraged him to adopt an ornamental pictorial style characterized by vibrant colors.
