Mahogany Side Table Attributed To Ce Jonsson, 19th Century.
An elegant circular mahogany pedestal table attributed to C.E. Jonsson, a cabinetmaker in Stockholm. Made in the late 19th or early 20th century, it is topped with a flame mahogany surface. The apron's edge is richly decorated with a carved wood frieze. It rests on a base composed of turned and carved balusters depicting rosary bead motifs at regular intervals. The feet terminate in carved lion's paws or claw feet, classic Empire-style motifs symbolizing strength and authority. The legs are connected by a central stretcher, itself carved in the middle with a decorative motif, adding stability and further refinement to the structure. Please note a small restoration on one of the legs (see photo). The piece has a label under the top with the cabinetmaker's name and its origin (see photo). This pedestal table, with its style and the quality of its carving, fits perfectly within the tradition of high-quality Swedish Empire-style furniture from the mid-19th century. The richness of the carved ornamentation (lion's paw, intricate balusters) testifies to the work of an experienced cabinetmaker. Perfect stability.
